Girl Holding a Cat

In the humidity her dress hangs limp,
Saturated cotton wilting around her knees,
Startched roses now a loose flag on her chest.
The fur makes ginger brushstrokes on her lap;
His eyes hollow a metallic tunnel through
A tiny, black maw in his iris.
Her hair sticks to the back of her neck
Like paste.
And the camera takes a picture.

The picture is rigid on a wall,
Impregnated with nails, bulbs buzzing with ambiance.
Bated breath smoothed over with spackle,
As suit coats and shawls
Draw small parameters in a wide berth
From capture to capture.

The frame has curved knees that hold her together,
Slightly crooked over a “Desert Rose” wall.
The doctor asks me what has meaning,
And the girl holds her cat in the heat.
